Best Places at Epcot for Small Children

Updated: 27 May 2013 08:10:31 AM

The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, or Epcot for short, is Disney’s second theme park and is composed of two areas – Future World and the World Showcase.

There is a lot of ground to cover at Epcot, so if you have young children in your party you can only benefit from a well-planned day at this park.

Here are some suggestions for the best places to take small children at Epcot.

Future World

The World Showcase does not open until 11, so start your day at Spaceship Earth, a slow moving ride that takes you up into the iconic Epcot geosphere.

Animatronic characters and scenes depict the history of man. Lines move quickly here and it is air conditioned, so this may be a great place to stop at the end of the day as well.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

This attraction at the Living Seas takes you on a gentle ride in a clamshell around the 5.7 million gallon aquarium.

Animation-projection makes it appear Nemo and his friends are actually swimming in the aquarium with the actual fish and other sea life.

Journey into Imagination with Figment – the fun loving dragon Figment teaches you about senses.

Don’t miss the playful leaping fountains outside the plaza.

World Showcase

It may be tempting to slow down and take in all of the amazing food, attractions and shows offered here, but don’t forget this is an easy place for young children to grow bored.

Highlights for young kids in the World Showcase are Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros, a boat ride that takes you on Donald’s adventures through Mexico.

Also worth a visit in the World Showcase: In Japan, Miyuki sculpts fanciful candy creations out of sugar to the amazement of the crowd, the Jeweled Dragon Acrobats in China, and the drums at the Saluting-Africa Outpost.

Strollers are available on the east side of the Entrance plaza and at the International Gateway.

Epcot is big – so it may be a great idea to have a place where kids can take a break while you still cover some ground.

Check the calendar.

There are some amazing festivals and special weekends planned at Epcot that you might not want to miss – or avoid altogether – when visiting Walt Disney World.
