IllumiNations : Reflections of Earth

Updated: 28 May 2013 05:16:31 AM

Each day at Walt Disney World's Epcot ends with the extraordinary IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, an award-winning, outdoor spectacle which integrates fireworks, lights, music, fountains, and imagery into a celebration of the history of humanity.

First introduced in 1999 as part of the Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration, IllumiNations was so successful with critics and guests that it became a permanent attraction.

The show is a dazzling display of Disney Imagineering at its best.

IllumiNations starts every night at 9pm, lighting up the World Showcase Lagoon with over 2800 fireworks and a three stories high, floating globe.

Pounding drums signal the start of the show, which can be viewed from anywhere inside the World Showcase.

Massive Crowds

As one of the most popular fireworks shows in the world, IllumiNations draws massive crowds each night.

It is recommended that you choose your spot to view the show 60-90 minutes before the show begins.

Many guests choose to view the show while they dine as many of the restaurants in the World Showcase offer views of the fireworks.

Favorite spots include the Rose and Crown Pub in the UK Pavilion and the Cantina de San Angel and Hacienda de San Angel in the Mexico Pavilion.

IllumiNations finishes just as the park is closing.

The second it ends, crowds begin flooding towards the park exit to the bus depot and parking lot, which become extremely congested.

If you are determined to stay throughout the entire duration of the show, expect to deal with crowds.

Statistically, more children are separated from their parents during this exodus than at any other time of the day.

Be mindful of the other members of your party as you navigate the crowds.

Before IllumiNations begin, it is wise to set up a meeting place for your group at a specific landmark (Spaceship Earth , the fountain just inside the park gates, etc.) just in case you are separated.
