Loch Haven Park Area is Orlando's Performing Arts Mecca

Updated: 30 April 2013 07:20:15 AM

Loch Haven Park has been the center for many performing-arts organizations and has now grown to gain national attention.

Loch Haven has been known as the cultural center in the Ivanhoe neighborhood where the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, Mennello Museum of Art, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra are all located.

To encourage cultural and scientific growth, the City of Orlando leases the owned buildings to nonprofit cultural organizations for only $1 per year but they must pay their own maintenance costs.

Venues

The Orlando Philharmonic, The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre and the Orlando Repertory Theater all have reported a steady increase in revenue and patrons during the past few years.

Many performance group leaders have indicated the exchange of ideas on common issues and the ability to consult with each other along with the three headquartered performing-arts groups, has helped provide increased artistic and foundational growth.

The Shakespeare Theater, teamed with the National Play Network on “The Exit Interview,” and has attracted actors such as Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Olympia Dukakis, ad Patric Stewart to perform in special programs.

Location

Located at Mills Avenue and Princeton Street, and centered between three lakes, Loch Haven Park is the site for several annual events, including the OMA’s Council of 101 Festival of the Trees.

The green spaces at the Loch Haven provide several perfect locations to enjoy views of the lakes among several grand oak trees. Check the City of Orlando website for more information.
