SeaWorld Rescue Team Rehabilitates Animals

Updated: 25 Jun 2013 03:04:00 AM

The tradition of animal rescue goes back more than 40 years and more than 22,000 animals have benefited.

SeaWorld is committed to responding to wildlife emergencies and work in partnership with state, local, and federal agencies.

Their rescue teams are on call 24/7 assisting with animals that are orphaned, ill, injured or just need some expert care.

SeaWorld’s goal is to rehabilitate and return animals to the wild when they can.

They also provide, to a small percentage of animals, permanent lifelong care when injuries are too serious for the animal to be released back into the wild.

SeaWorld’s Commitment

Their animal rescue history started in 1963 when the SeaWorld Research Institute opened it doors with the commitment “to return to the sea some measure of the benefits derived from it.”

In 1976, SeaWorld Orlando rescued its first manatee followed by bottle-raising an orphaned manatee.

They also rehabilitated a 5,000-pound Bryde’s whale, and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, they rescued 14 injured or displaced sea lions.

SeaWorld’s commitment has never wavered.

Last year they rescued a young sea lion with a severe bullet wound.

Behind The Scenes Tour

If the family is planning a trip to SeaWorld Orlando this year, be sure to visit the Behind-the-Scenes Tour.

This tour provides a rare opportunity to learn about and see how these passionate animal experts care for rescued manatees and sea turtles up close.

The tour takes 90 minutes and you will even get to touch shark, explore a hidden polar bear den and interact with a penguin.

These are the things children’s dreams are made and 10% of your admission is donated to the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund.
